In search for clear waters

2023

exhibition in Totan Gallery

Tokyo, Japan

photographed by Misa Asanuma

Mountain rivers carry fresh drinking water and snowmelt from top to bottom.

Source is high up and is constantly reborn. The past too is an ever-renewing phenomenon that flows from sources high above. What has been is constantly interpreted by filtering through the earth and is born again as a source on the ground. In the clear water can be seen the bottom of the river, and what has settled down there. Yet, neither fresh running water nor thought-through past is self-evident.

The textile works and debris collected from mount Hiei and the river-beds in Kyoto contemplate on the beauty and necessity of pure waters, both literally and metaphorically. The exhibition is made in the memory of my natural dyeing teacher in Italy, Alessandro. In the works I have used fabrics and yarns dyed together with him.
